The Dexter Biodiesel plant is the culmination of over 12 months of research and development into the Biodiesel market, and represents a major investment by the Dexter group, aimed at providing sustainable fuels that have a lower impact on the environment than conventional mineral fuels can achieve.
Protection of the environment has been a key factor in the development of the plant, as a result the plant operates under a low impact license, with very little waste and few emissions being produced. Where possible materials used in the production of the fuel are recovered for reuse in subsequent production. Glycerol the major by-product of Biodiesel production is recovered from the process, cleaned and then sent for use in other manufacturing industries.
In keeping with the environmental commitments of the company, we have concluded that palm oil will not be used in the manufacture of our products due to the potential destruction of tropical rainforest by the palm oil industry. We ensure that all our products are from renewable and sustainable sources and are derived either from recycled vegetable oils or rape seed.
The current manufacturing facility constitutes phase one of our total investment and is capable of producing in excess of 20,000 litres of Biodiesel (B100), per day. At a 20% blend (b20) this equates to a total annual production capability of approximately 25 million litres of fuel per year.
